Celebrate Mass For Mrs. Dolores McElroy

Solemn requiem mass for Mrs. Dolores Barron McElroy. Jr., of 100 Lodges Lane. C.vnwyd. was sung Tuesday morning at St. Matthias' Church, C.vnwyd.

Mrs. McElroy. who died last Friday, was buried in Laurel Hill Cemetery. She was 35.

A daughter of the former Barroness deRochette, of Dinard. Fiance, Mrs. McElroy's father was the late Capt. Eustace Barron, who served in both the British and the French armies in the last war. She was born in Geneva and -was educated at the English Catholic Convent of New Hall. She came to this country in 1930.

Mis. McElroy is survived by her husband. Clayton, and a son, Francis Barron.

JOHN (1) GEORGE REPPLIER MCELROY (Archibald [2], Daniel [1]) b. June 30, 1842; d. November 26, 1890; m. November 2, 1869, in Philadelphia, Anna Baldwin Clayton, who was b. November 2, 1847; d. August 31, 1897.

John G. R. McElroy graduated from the University of Pennsylvania in 1862, and received the degree of A.M. later from the same institution. He taught in the City of Chicago for a time and in 1867 became Assistant Professor of Rhetoric and History in his Alma Mater. Two years later he became Assistant Professor in Greek and History. After seven years' service he was promoted to Professorship of Greek and the English language, which position he retained until his death in 1890. He was a very genial man and a popular and successful teacher. He was author of "The Structure of English Prose," and of numerous articles in philological journals. (end p. 118)

Shortly before the Revolutionary war two young men, brothers, Daniel and James McElroy, came from County Donegal, in North Ireland, not remote from Coleraine, where other McElroys resided, and settled in Lancaster County, Pa., near what is now New Holland. They m. sisters, natives of Glasgow, Scotland, by the name of Wishart. Daniel m. Rebecca., and James m. Sarah Wishart. The name carries us back to the times of John Knox, and recalls Knox's spiritual father, George M. Wishart, who suffered martydom at St. Andrews, March 1, 1546.

The father of these two McElroy wives fought and was wounded in the Revolution, and received a pension from the Government; and their husbands, Daniel and James McElroy, were also Revolutionary soldiers. Both of them lived and d. in Lancaster County, and each had a family of nine children - four sons and five daughters in each.
